Den of Vipers by K.A. Knight - "Born out of blood and pain, I'm a f*cking Viper"

Den of Vipers by KA Knight
Book Blurb:
Ryder, Garrett, Kenzo, and Diesel—The Vipers.

They run this town and everyone in it. Their deals are as sordid as their business, and their reputation is enough to bring a grown man to his knees, forcing him to beg for mercy. They are not people you mess with, yet my dad did. The old man ran up a debt with them and then sold me to cover his losses.

Yes, sold me.

They own me now.

I’m theirs in every sense of the word. But I’ve never been meek and compliant. These men, they look at me with longing. Their scarred, blood-stained hands holding me tight. They want everything I am, everything I have to give, and won’t stop until they get just that. They can own my body, but they will never have my heart.

The Vipers? I’m going to make them regret the day they took me.

This girl? She bites too.

*18+ Reverse Harem Romance. Warning this book contains scenes and references of abuse/assault that some readers may find triggering. Along with graphic sex scenes and violence. This is a dark book*

Let me start this out by saying I’m fairly new to the Dark Romance genre. I dipped my toes in earlier in the year and have slowly realized that what caused me to DNF so many books wasn’t that they were bad, it’s that they weren’t dark and twisty enough for me. I’ve always loved murder mysteries and, if left to my own devices, can be found listening to ID channel while I read. As this year has progressed, I’ve gone further and further down the rabbit hole and find myself only wanting to read these dark stories.

When I first started seeing teasers for Den of Vipers I was thrilled. I KNEW this would be a wild ride. Dark, twisty, murders, mafia, enemies-to-lovers and reverse harem? Yes, yes, yes and more YES! As I’ve mentioned in other posts, I don’t really have any triggers (except animal abuse and some taboo topics that aren't featured in this book), but I realize that some people do. The warning is 100% accurate and there are plenty of scenes in this book that will not be for everyone. There's a lot of violence, knife play to the nth degree, masochism, and lots of blood. With that being said, this book was everything I hoped it would be. Den of Vipers is long. Easily one of the longest books I’ve read. And every page was absolutely necessary to their HEA. This is a non-conventional love story about 5 broken people helping each other find their missing pieces. Despite all the darkness, the light that shines through and the growth that is shown with these characters in so well done. And very hard-earned.

"Some people are born with a rage, a need to hurt. Some are born greedy, an addictive personality. Others hide it well, but in the end, we’re all the same. We all bleed the same colour, and we are all just searching for something to make the truth of our souls disappear so we feel like good people."

Ryder, Kenzo, Garrett & Diesel are the 4 “brothers” that make up the infamous Vipers. Each brother has their own role: Ryder is the face of the Vipers, Garrett is the enforcer, Kenzo is the bookie and Diesel is, as he calls himself, the Grim Reaper. They’re ruthless and don’t hesitate to do what’s necessary to ensure their power over the city never weakens and to protect their family. The book opens with them having a “discussion” with Rob, a man that owes a debt to the Vipers, who then offers up his daughter as payment for what he owes. They decide to take him up on his offer, assuming she satisfies the debt, with promises to come back should she not. Thinking Roxxane is a normal woman, they send four of their men to grab her. Needless to say, things don’t go as planned and they’re forced to go collect her themselves. From the moment they all meet, things are explosive and all four brothers are impressed.

The story that Katie has written just about blew my mind. You have brothers Ryder and Kenzo who have shared heartache and are trying to continue the Viper Legacy, Diesel who was born through fire and Garrett who is covered in scars from his own nightmare. Now we introduce Roxy, who has dealt with a lifetime of abuse the only way she knew how - by becoming an absolute bad ass. Add her into the brothers' dynamic and you get something none of them were bargaining for.

Given the way Roxy grew up and the things that have happened to her, she was forced to become a fighter to survive. The Vipers might’ve met their match. As you would expect, Roxy is not happy about being kidnapped and doesn't take it lying down. The longer Roxy is with the guys, the more she realizes that she may be more like them than she thought and being kidnapped might be the best thing that ever happened in her life.

There's so much more that I could say about this book, but a lot of it would end up being a spoiler. Get ready for a wild ride, because the journey to get to their happily ever after is full of blood (the enemies and theirs), lots of death and destruction. It's not an easy ride; otherwise it would've been a much shorter book.

Assuming that none of the warnings/triggers mentioned are no go's for you, I recommend you give this book a chance because you won't regret it.

RATING: 5/5 STARS ✰✰✰✰✰
