My Torin by K Webster - “He. Loved. You. I. Love. You.”

My Torin by K Webster

Book Blurb:
I’m a freak, a misfit, an odd end.
Abandoned and unloved.
But my happiness is so close I can taste it.

Until he shows up.

Gorgeous, expensive, and all man.
Sad brown eyes and a brilliant smile.
And he wants me to go with him.

His intentions are hidden.
His motives are unclear.
Yet, I leave with him because there’s no happiness here.

What he promises feels too good to be true…
A castle. A fortune. And horses too.
It’s too easy.
Nothing in my life has ever been easy.

What’s the catch?
There’s always a catch.

The first book I read by K Webster was Wicked Lies Boys tell, which I thoroughly enjoyed (read it if you like MM stories). Looking for more books by her I saw My Torin, but the mysterious blurb didn’t catch my attention enough at the time. I’m so angry I didn’t read this story back then. Once I started listening to the audiobook through Audible Escape, I searched for reviews that would give me a better idea as to what kind of story I was in for (anyone else need to know the gist of where the story is going? Or is it just me?). I came across SueBee’s review on Goodreads and boy am I thankful I heeded her advice to go in blind.

Having experienced other books by Webster, I thought I was prepared. Boy was I wrong. This story absolutely wrecked me in the best way. I’m going to pay it forward and not spoil this beautiful story for you, so this review will be shorter than normal. Take this warning to heart - be prepared to laugh, cry and be angry. It became obvious early on that this was an amazing story that I needed to own, so I went and bought the ebook version before I even finished listening to it.

Casey Doe, aka Cocaine Casey was found on Christmas Day in the nativity scene at her local church by the deacon. Still grieving from the loss of his wife, he decides that he can’t take on caring for her and will ensure she has a better life than what he can provide by getting the authorities involved. Fast forward 17 years; Casey’s life has been anything but idyllic. She’s been picked on her entire life and cannot wait for the moment she turns 18 so she can get out of town for good. With 2 months left until her birthday and GED in hand, Casey’s foster father calls her into the living room to let her know she’s going to be leaving with the well-dressed stranger who paid tons of cash for her. As you would expect, Casey is hesitant to trust Tyler because what could he possibly want with her?

Soon after arriving at her new home, Casey begins to understand what her purpose is. What follows is one of the most beautiful stories I’ve ever read. That being said, it’s not all rainbows and butterflies. Like I mentioned before, be prepared for an emotional roller coaster and to cry!

If you haven’t read My Torin, I recommend you do so as fast as possible- you won’t regret it. I'd especially say, if you're not an audiobook fan, give this one a shot. Listening to this story brought it to life in such a way that I didn't experience for the parts I read. If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I would.
