When
pro baseball’s “would have been” becomes Exeter High’s newest coach, it
takes one look of those flirty brown eyes and cocky smile before
everything changes.
I thought I knew exactly what I wanted out of life until he walked into it.
Now, the only thing I know for sure is that I don’t want Lawrence McKinley to pay attention to anybody but me.
First off, the dedication! Pure perfection.
Lawrence and Reece’s story was just plain beautiful. This was my first
book by B. Celeste and I was drawn into their story from the first words
and hooked until the last. I enjoyed that it wasn’t your typical romance where
everything was predictable. The progression felt very natural and not
rushed at all, especially considering the amount of grief Reece was
dealing with.
Lawrence recently relocated to Exeter to be the History teacher and to
coach football and baseball after being forced to abandon his MLB opportunity after an injury. The last thing he
expected was to be attracted to Reece, especially considering his plans
to keep to himself and not get involved with anyone. They hit it off
from the moment they met and began to develop a close friendship.
Despite their attraction to each other, it takes months before they turn
their platonic friendship into something more. When they do, the sparks
fly!
Because of Reece’s past, he has a lot of healing to do. It was really
beautiful to see how Ren helped and supported him and never rushed or
pushed him out of his comfort zone. Ren also had issues of his own to work on, but Reece's were the primary focus.
Theo and Della, from Color Me Pretty, do make an appearance a few times
throughout the book, so if you’ve read it, you’ll enjoying seeing more
of them. If you haven’t read the book yet like me, you’ll be
intrigued and want to know more about them.
