REVIEW

From the moment the Here Lies series started being advertised, I was all in. I knew I had to sign up for the ARC because I couldn’t wait for release day. I also knew I couldn’t wait for all 5 books in the series to be released before I started it and now I’m simultaneously kicking myself for starting and also happy I didn’t wait. I was drawn into this creepy world right away. There are definitely some triggers, as you would expect in a dark romance novel. As stated, this is a dark, reverse harem romance, so you should know to expect alpha guys. There’s also mild knife play, some discussions of past self harm and MM.

Here Lives a Corpse is different from other books in this genre. Yes, it’s dark; yes, it’s a reverse harem, but it feels like so much more. It’s haunting, suspenseful and dangerous. You have no idea who to trust, who to root for.

Colton is struggling with her brother Cassidy’s supposed accidental death. Despite the ruling, she is convinced he was murdered. Starting school this term, she’s not looking forward to running into the 4 Student Gov guys, Lennox, Tennison, Ross & Bridger, that used to be her everything. She severed their relationships because she felt like they betrayed her and weren’t there for her when she needed them. Determined to get to the bottom of Cassidy’s death, she begins investigating. The guys are running hot and cold and confusing her to no end. They seem to be unable to decide if they want to bully her or start back where they left off.

As she learns more information and gains a new friend to help her investigate (as well as a few new love interests), she realizes that things are a lot more complicated than she anticipated. Not to mention the warnings she gets at every corner.

It’s obvious the web is massive. It seems that it’s going to take a lot of work to uncover just how deep the mystery surrounding Cass' death. Just when you think Colt is getting close to some important information about the secret society, the rug is pulled from under her. This book ends in a cliffhanger, but I was thankful it didn’t end mid-scene. Was I happy to see the dreaded “To be continued...”? Absolutely not. However, it felt like a good point to end Book 1. I know I’m waiting with bated breath for Here Lies a Saint. Is it December yet???!!!
