**Joyless is a MMF romance with its own HEA, and while it explores new characters, it is highly recommended that you read Volume 1 first, as the timeline mirrors that of Distorted and there will be references to Distorted in Joyless that could spoil book 1.**

Nyla K, ladies and gentleman. I always think I'm ready for what I'm getting into, but let me tell you. Nope I wasn't ready, ya'll! This. Book. Nyla came to play. Joyless was beyond fascinating to read. If you've read Distorted (PSSTT! You MUST read Distorted!) you'll be just as thrilled as I was to experience different scenes from Distorted from Joy, Velle, and Rook's perspectives. Gah!!!

Alabaster Penintentiary Volume 2 definitely takes you deeper into life on Alabaster Isle. Our faves are back! Darcey, Kang, Ren, Lex, O’Malley! There's some new players in here too. I have so many more questions about things going on in the Pen. But Nyla answered some of our burning questions leftover from Distorted.

The steam, y'all. I was NOT ready for the steam level in this book! If you think you've read spicy Nyla... You haven't. Trust me. The scenes in this book are on a whole new level. I'M HERE FOR IT! A touch taboo.. Maybe? Still hot. Becasue hello? Flipping Hot Fiction. It definitely fits.

Now to dig a bit deeper into the heart of this story while revealing nothing spoilery. Can I get a round of applause for Velle's character development?! I am obsessed with how contradictory Velle's character is! LOVE! Daddy Velle is tough and dominant, but that's not all. Everyone has a vulnerabile side, howver hidden it may be. Seeing Velle's vulnerable side made him irresistible.

And don't even get me started on Rook and Joy. These 3 as a whole are some of my favorite Nyla characters. It's hard to pick favorites, but after each release I'm even more torn. I didn't expect to love them so much, but I shouldn't have been surprised. Nyla worked HARD on their character development and that hard work truly shined through in Joyless.

“Power shift” is a phrase I saw in the book and it really jumped out at me. The dynamic of the characters was truly special. Nyla played around a bit with stereotypical "gender roles" and completely flipped them off their axis. Stereotypically, as a woman, Joy would be the soft, weaker character, but that’s not the case. Then Rook seems more meek, quiet and shy, and yet he’s dominant in his own right. Velle is blatantly dominant and yet is he? This smorgasbord of contrasts was fabulous. I can't wait for more from the Alabaster Pen world.
