An Introduction - Part II - Carissa

Hi! I'm Carissa, a 34 year old Accounts Payable Specialist with an obsession for all things books. Although my husband and I found each other later in life, I can truly say I found my other half. We've been married for 2 1/2 years and together for 5 1/2 years. Our happy family is completed by a whole zoo of animals - 5 dart frogs, a crested gecko, a fish, 2 cats (plus our angel kitty Jojo), a dog and a recused baby duck. Jewel, Fuzz and Archie keep us pretty busy, but we hope to have children of our own in the near future.

Since my sister did such an amazing job detailing our dysfunctional family's dynamics, I won't bore you with those details and I'll jump right into how I started reading. As early as I can remember, I always enjoyed books. We grew up with a Scholastic Kids Book Club membership and waited impatiently for our next batch of books to devour. I would beg my parents for money to buy as many books as possible from the Book Fair whenever it would come to my school. The first books I remember loving were The Face on the Milk Carton by Caroline B. Cooney, Letters from Rifka by Karen Hesse and Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. These books all started as required readings in elementary school, but I still attribute them for my love affair with reading.

As I grew up, my relationship with reading continued to grow. There were a period of years that I didn't spend as much time as I used to reading, but I'll never forget the first book that I read that rekindled my love. Thanks to my sister, I starting reading High Tide by Jude Deveraux and I devoured that book in a matter of hours (I don't think I slept more than 2-3 hours that night). Needless to say, the next day at school was very difficult, but I was hooked! Luckily, my stepmom was an avid reader so we had plenty to choose from and when we didn't, a trip to Barnes & Nobles was in order.

Reading has always provided me with an escape from reality, and that has not changed as an adult. I cannot tell you how many hours I've spent wandering the aisles of Barnes & Nobles searching for new worlds to explore! Romance novels as a whole are my go-to genre, however I love reading murder mystery, psychological thrillers and fiction books whenever I need to mix things up or help me overcome a book hangover (I'm sure you all know what I mean!). I hope to be able to share my love of books and the stories within with all of you. Welcome to our blog!

Happy reading!
