I Don't Want You by V McFarlane - "Hate is a strong word but then again so is love. I'd read somewhere before, that you can't truly hate someone, like really hate them if you don't love them first.""

Book Blurb:

That man is dangerous, too charming, too smooth, and if I'm not careful, he's going to wipe the floor with me.

Jared

What happens when everything you know about love turns out to be a lie?
I loved her and she left.
When I finally see her again, I can’t help but want to hate her only no matter what I do to push her away she always comes back.
I don’t want to want her, but I do.

Violet

He made me believe in love and then I broke his heart.
Three years later he comes back a changed man. There’s ice in his heart and fire in his eyes.
He’s cruel, heartless, and hateful but beneath it all I still see the man I fell in love with.
I’ve always wanted him, I still do.

I Don't Want You is a second chance, enemies to lovers standalone romance, the first installment of the 'A Lakeside Romance' series. All books in this series can be read alone.
HEA guaranteed!

I discovered I Don't Want You after being invited to participate in a blogger/bookstagram tour. This review is freely offered of my own free will, and is an unbiased review of the book. I love discovering new or new-to-me authors, and I was quite excited by the blurb for this book. Also, full disclosure, I saw the cover and knew I needed to read it. Hero wearing a leather jacket AND playing the guitar? He's a musician? NEED! Gimme gimme gimme!

Jared Reinhard and Violet Walker star in this second chance, enemies to lovers romance. The story starts off when they're twenty-four-years-old and twenty-two-years-old respectively. They both lead relatively simple lives and share a mutual passion for music. Their relationship grows and flourishes. They get along so well. It seems like they've known each other for years. Like they're meant to be.

Without giving too much away, Jared and Violet met and fell in love rather quickly. We don't see too much of their relationship, but it seems to have helped the story develop better. Fast forward six months down the line and they're closer than ever when Jared gets the offer of a lifetime. This is his chance to make his dreams come true. Violet sees this and worries she will only hinder him. Selflessly, to ensure she doesn't hold him back, she lets him go. And to let him go she hurts him. Violet wrecks herself in the process, but also the sweet, loving Jared she has known and loved.

Three years down the line Jared's musical dreams have really been coming true.  Violet has moved forward in some ways, but has also remained stagnant. She has lost her passion for music along with the man of her dreams.  It was hard to see how joyful and happy they were in the beginning then to see how different they both were after those three years passed in contrast.

When fate brings them back together, Violet finds herself the main target of Jared's anger and hostility. He vows to hurt her as bad as she hurt him. He succeeds more than I wanted him to. I swear my heart felt like it was going to shatter. These scenes were so vivid and painful. I could feel Violet's pain so deeply. I was so hurt for her. But I also hurt for Jared. Even after three years, his heart is so bruised by Violet's dismissal of him that all he wants to do is strike out in vengeance. It's not the "right way" to handle his feelings, but nobody is perfect. His feelings were relatable.

Sparks fly when these two clash. I wanted them to have angry sex so bad! Especially since you don't get much of a taste of their sexual chemistry. Boy do we get a taste of it later on. Sizzling hot scenes here Ms. V! Eventually, Jared and Violet find common ground. They're slowly able to rebuild their relationship. I Don't Want You ends with an HEA. This story was loving, sweet, angsty, and emotional. And, again, sex scenes that may just melt your e-reader.

There were a few British terms used that confused me since the book takes place in America, and "too" was used instead of "to", but those errors or oversights didn't detract enough from the story to take away from my rating. I noticed the words, but I was so involved in Jared and Violet's story that I didn't dwell I just devoured the book. It took me about 6-8 hours total to read I Don't Want You in its entirety. If you pick this book up, you won't be disappointed. I rate this a solid 5 stars. This baby is available on Kindle Unlimited.
