Book Blurb:
The only thing better than a good whiskey is the love of a good womanSome call it running. I call it starting again.
A new beginning isn’t always easy, especially for someone like me.
I’m fighting to keep my troubled past a secret, for both me, and my daughter.
Falling in love would only bring more mess to my already chaotic life but my head and my heart don’t always agree.
Taron Cain was everything I could ever want and everything I couldn’t have.
First I had whiskey, then I had Ripley.
Now?
Now I have a feisty little blonde that I can’t get out of my head.
I’m determined to send those walls she’s built crumbling down.
She just needs to let me in, and once I’m in…
I’m never coming out.
Whiskey Kiss is a small-town, opposites attract romance.
HEA guaranteed and no cliff hanger!
I received an ARC of Whiskey Kiss and I'm freely giving this review. I rate Whiskey Kiss a solid 3.5 stars. The story was entertaining and both main characters grew. Penny and Taron don't meet each other under the best of circumstances. They have quite a few clashes before they're able to find common ground.
Penny is a single mom who has gone through a difficult time. She is starting over in a new town, and suspects Taron is up to no good. Unbeknownst to her, he has just discovered he has a 5-year-old daughter. The girl's mother kept her a secret from him until her untimely death. Now he has to decide if he take responsibility for his child or allow her to remain with the system. Taron keeps his daughter.
I really enjoyed this aspect, because usually the single-parent trope features just one single parent. In this case, both characters were single parents. I think this helped them squash their issues faster than anything else could have. It's difficult, at first, for Penny to trust her attraction to Taron and his attraction to her, but Taron is persistent. He doesn't stop gently encouraging her to let her walls down. Sometimes not so gently, because let's face it. He's a man.
Taron's patience pays off. They fall into bed, and begin building a relationship. Penny is still holding onto the secret Taron can see in her eyes. Unfortunately, someone in town has their sights set on Penny. Penny's secret is exposed. Will Taron and Penny be able to get passed this?
Overall the book was entertaining. I do feel like I needed a bit more details or emotions. It started to scratch the surface, but didn't quite dig deep enough to satisfy that need for me. Whiskey Kiss was a quick, satisfying small-town romance.
