Pretty Lies by R.E. Bond - “You know all that bullshit about soulmates? It was totally fucking true."

BOOK BLURB

My dad’s an asshole. Plain and simple.
He’s made it obvious that I can only ever rely on myself.
Until I meet them.
Caden, Tyler, Jensen, and Lukas.
My new stepbrother and his best friends have suddenly become my everything.
Until they aren’t.
They think they can break me, but they’re dead wrong.
They wouldn’t have bet on me having someone else on my side, or in my bed.
These rich boys haven’t seen anything yet.
Their pretty lies are nothing compared to what’s coming though, and I’m going to need them to anchor me when I finally break.
Death is coming to those who deserve it, and I don’t care if I lose myself in the process.
Did I mention the local street crew being on my side?
No one will ever see me coming.
My name’s Rory Donovan, and I’m about to paint the walls red.

*Pretty Lies is a 75k word dark romance reverse harem novel. This is the first book in the series and it must be read in order. The first four books are Rory's, and the harem grows over those books, so other guys will be added as the story goes. It contain abuse and rape content, and the series will have m/m. If you are triggered by sensitive content, this series is not for you.

REVIEW

Wow. That’s the one word that comes to mind after finishing the Pretty Lies ARC I received to read in preparation for the release of Twisted Fate, Watch Me Burn Book 2. This book is a friends-to-enemies-to-lovers, dark, bully RH and is chock full of triggers. There’s tons of cursing, bullying, knife play, murder, rape, violence and drugs. If any of these are triggers for you, I recommend you steer clear. If that doesn’t scare you away, then you’re in for quite the ride!

Aurora Donovan has dealt with quite a lot in her 17 years. Unfortunately, the hits keep on coming. Finding out that her and her father are moving in with his rich girlfriend & son and that she’s changing schools does not make Rory very happy. Her new “stepbrother” Caden and his friends Jensen, Tyler and Lukas (who she shares a longtime friendship that ended abruptly several years prior) make a show of coaxing her out of her shell and making her trust them despite her skittishness. Even though she’s jumpy, she’s one tough cookie. She’s not afraid to deal with the female bullies and stand up for herself. Just as things are going well for her, her new friends betray her and she’s left reeling.

With nowhere to go, she runs off to the only place she can think of. She’s welcomed with open arms into the local street crew and a new relationship develops. Caden, Jensen, Tyler and Lukas’ betrayal backfires and actually makes her even stronger than she was before, gaining her some powerful allies. Allies that she’ll need to get revenge on the people that hurt her and paint the walls red with their blood.

This book got better the further I got into it. The writing started out with little depth, but by the end of it, it was everything I look for in a good book. It’s told primarily from Rory’s POV, however we also get the 5 other guy’s views as well. I really enjoyed seeing those small glimpses into their thoughts because it provides their motivation for what they’re doing.

Typically with RH series there’s a main mystery or goal that stretches across all the books, however those were all resolved this book. There were a few bombs dropped at the end so I’m intrigued to see where the story will take us next. Definitely give this book a read if this genre is your cup of tea. I read it in one sitting, I could not put it down.

Check back in for my review of Twisted Fate later this morning.

Author Bio

R.E. Bond is a dark romance author from Tasmania, Australia. She is obsessed with reverse harem books, especially if they have m/m! She collects paperbacks as a hobby, has read or written every day since she started high school, and constantly needs music in her daily life. She loves camping and rodeos in the summer, and not getting out of bed in the winter. Coffee and books are life, and her favourite word is fuck, but she gets creative when she needs to.
