REVIEW

This was the first book I've read by T.L. Smith. I did listen to Black on Audible Plus, though, so I guess that actually counts as my first T.L. book. Rylee and August were very enjoyable characters, however I feel like I needed a bit more depth to allow me to truly feel their emotions. I struggled to connect to them. With that being said, I did enjoy the story and the journey they went on.

Rylee and August knew each other from school years ago. She’s the rich girl, while he’s the bad boy from the wrong side of town. We meet them when August is being released from a prison sentence. Rylee is in a toxic relationship with her long-term boyfriend. To add to her difficulties her mom tries to control her life.

Rylee reconnects with August through her sister's boyfriend. She is determined to build at least a friendship with him, but he is resistant to the idea. Slowly but surely she manages to break through his walls a bit. Unfortunately, August’s past comes back to haunt him. This book ends on a mild cliffhanger.
