REVIEW

Good lord! Emery Rose books have an almost poetic feel to them that’s just so freaking beautiful. Sometimes painful, but there’s even beauty in that pain. The stories are just so realistic and tug on my heartstrings so hard.

I was enamored with Jesse as soon as I “met” his character in When the Stars Fall. The fearless daredevil. So full of life and energy. I’m so glad he got a book. Jesse is such a sweetheart. Quinn and Jesse. I can’t even find the words right now. I’m still processing. In a good way.

Jesse is 9 years older than Quinn, and is best friends with Quinn’s brother Mason. He has literally known her since she was born. As a child she received a diagnosis that over time progressed to a lifethreatening prognosis. This of course and worsened caused her family (which includes three older brothers) to be very overprotective. This definitely presented some challenges for our characters since Quinn can't wait to spread her wings.

Jesse, on the other hand, has always been a daredevil. He sees Quinn’s strength and resilience and doesn’t doubt she can take care of herself and do anything she sets her mind to. She’s 18. He’s 27. She’s loved him since childhood, but Jesse no longer believes in love. The push and pull between Quinn and Jesse built the tension to explosive levels. How will a summer together play out before she leaves for college?

God. There’s such beauty in their recklessness with each other. Jesse’s dirty mouth just about melted my Kindle. I couldn't get enough of the steam. Quinn’s boldness and brazenness in pursuing what she wants. This book didn’t just tell a story, but it also carried heavy life lessons. I feel like this book helped my outlook on life. Must. Read. I can’t wait to add Jesse’s paperback to my shelf along with Jude and Brody’s. Those McCalister boys are irresistible. The epilogue was so satisfying.
