So let me start by saying if you've read the Licking Thicket series you already know what to expect when diving into this book: tons of hilarious puns and laugh-out-loud moments. Usually I have to be in the mood for romantic comedies, but I'm always in the mood for Lucy Lennox and May Archer comedy. Hilarious. Add in the security company, the gaming aspect and the cartel and there’s so much entertainment packed into one book.
I absolutely loved the dynamic between Riggs and Carter from the beginning. They were drawn to each other from jump. Until Carter discovers Riggs is his bodyguard and vice versa. Carter doesn't want a bodyguard. Riggs must resist his client to stay out of trouble with his boss. These two kept picking at each other as a way to both distance themselves and infuriate the other. Moments of pure gold.
Now for the best part. Not only are Carter and Riggs steamy, they also tugged my heartstrings so hard. The balance between the antagonism (possibly too strong of an adjective here) humor and emotions was spot on. I enjiyed the push and pull and then was gutted by their pain in certain moments. It takes true talent to make you feel emotions so viscerally.
I definitely recommend this book. This book had an ending, but it also has me ready for the next book in the series. I've already preordered Hitched and I'm excited to see what's in store for Champ, the owner of Champion Security.
